The Workshop in Camden won the prestigious 2014 RIBA London award for Housing
Renovation and conversion of a Georgian warehouse 2006-2008
The Brief
The brief was to convert this part of a late Georgian warehouse into a three-bedroom apartment with separate office.
Strategy
Our strategy has been to restore the historic fabric and to retain period features, whilst upgrading the envelope to meet today’s regulations.
This warehouse has fantastic open spaces that define its character. We developed a free-standing sculptural object made of white oak that sits within the floor plate and generates the spaces. This box contains the subservient spaces such as bathrooms and storage.
In 2005, Henning Stummel architects won the RIBA London Building of the Year Award for an extension to a Georgian house in Marylebone, London.
